I cannot but see the parallel between Prince Harry and the Prodigal Son which I wrote about in my first book Understanding Your Choice. As the story states, there were two brothers…one, the younger asked his father for the portion of goods that belonged to him so he could go out into the far country. The prodigal son knew that remaining in a cloistered environment of privilege and access would continue to be a deterrent to him ever knowing himself—the goal of everyone on this journey of enlightenment—self-knowledge. He had come to the realization that to gain that self-knowledge he needed to go out into the world and among his other brothers and sisters who were different from him but who he needed to learn from for his self-discovery. Additionally, the United States and the United Kingdom are referred to in the ancient text as brothers…we could say the younger of the two brothers, the USA, went out into the far country also to go find itself over 240 years ago!
The story continues by saying that the Prodigal Son immersed himself into the experiences the far country had to offer and then came to the decision after he had experienced all his soul determined to return HOME!
It was the belief of most that he would be condemned. On the contrary, the Father was always expecting his son’s return and waited patiently to welcome him home. He looked down the path one day and finally saw him and ran to meet him. The Prodigal Son was then elevated to a position above the son who remained home and was given a position of leadership of the kingdom. The Father, in his wisdom, knew that the knowledge, understanding and wisdom that the experience offered his son qualified him to be a better ruler.
